The Graduate Programme Coordinating Committee has a direct reporting line to the Scientific Director. The Committee is responsible to the Scientific Director for recommending all policy, regulatory, procedural and academic matters relating to research degrees and in particular:
- To formulate policy on research degrees in consultation with faculty.
- To establish, operate, keep under review and improve policy for the admission, registration, individual Student Advisory Committee’s membership approval, training requirements, and examination of research degree students and higher doctorate candidates. This includes:
- the recruitment of research students
- the appointment of supervisors
- recommendation of examiners
- To be responsible (on behalf of the Faculty and with the delegated authority of the Scientific Director) for the admission, registration, progress and examination of research degree students and higher doctorate candidates. This includes the interpretation and waiver of policy and regulations.
- To ratify (on behalf of the Faculty and with the delegated authority of the Scientific Director) reports of student disciplinary and exclusion cases. In cases where the committee is to discuss individual student cases, the committee may require the student representative to be absent from the meeting room for the duration of discussions that would compromise the personal privacy of the individual.
